The Pike Animal Shelter participates in the PetMeds Healthy Pet Donation Program.

The goal of the Troy Animal Shelter Coalition, Inc. / Pike Animal Shelter is to build and maintain a quality, accessible animal shelter that is a pillar in all animal welfare efforts and that adds value to the quality of life in our community.

While raising funds for the construction of a new facility, the organization sponsors adoptions in partnership with the City of Troy shelter facility, learning opportunities, and community activities that celebrate companion animals.

About Us
Who we are: Troy Animal Shelter Coalition, Inc. / Pike Animal Shelter

The Troy Animal Shelter Coalition, Inc., a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, administers the Pike Animal Shelter, the facility that will be built on donated land at 800 Henderson Hwy, Troy, Ala., in the heart of Pike County.

The Troy Animal Shelter Coalition / Pike Animal Shelter is in official partnership with the City of Troy. When the new Henderson Highway facility is built, the city will close the current, inadequate facility at its public works site and the city's animal control officers will have use of a modern, professional facility that adds value to the quality of life in our community.

Unlike the current city facility, the Pike Animal Shelter will house both dogs and cats, have regular hours of operation, be constructed to modern shelter design principles allowing improved health of the animals and maintenance of the facility, and will facilitate community humane education programs, adoption programs, and events that celebrate companion animals.

The Pike Animal Shelter will be operated under the guidance of a diverse Board of Directors and in accordance with law including those regarding vaccination and spay and neuter. The Pike Animal Shelter will work actively to reduce suffering of animals.

Site selection for the Pike Animal Shelter was determined by appropriate zoning, accessibility for animal control officers and community members, visibility, safety, utility access, and appropriateness for an animal shelter facility. The land for the new facility, 800 Henderson Hwy. Troy, was donated by the Walt Stell family in honor of his parents.

With site selection complete, architectural planning underway, and fundraising and community events in progress, the Board of Directors recognizes that the needs of animals in our community are so great that we cannot ignore providing immediate assistance to the current city of Troy facility that houses dogs picked up by animal control officers. Therefore, we have chosen to align ourselves closely with the existing Troy facility and in support and appreciation of the city's animal control officers.

While raising funds for the construction of a new facility, the TASC/PAS sponsors adoptions in partnership with the City of Troy shelter facility through quarterly Bow Wow Pow Wow adoption events and the fall-season Pike Animal Shelter Fur Fest.

The TASC/PAS, with support from community members, has also placed Kuranda beds in the current city facility to improve the health and comfort of the dogs held there.

For more information, please contact the Chair of the Founder's Society by email or read the Frequently Asked Questions.

And who we are not
Because the TASC/PAS is dedicated specifically to serving the needs of our community, it is not aligned with national organizations for the purpose of lobbying. The TASC/PAS takes no position on the eating of meat, wearing of fur, hunting, or similar issues. Rather, the TASC/PAS focuses on the pressing needs of animals in our own community.
