The current city of Troy facility
The city of Troy currently has one 16-kennel facility for dogs. This facility is maintained by caring, professional animal control officers employed by the city. However, the facility is not large enough to house as many dogs as are in need, and no facility is provided for cats.
The dogs held in this facility received limited fresh air through the openings seen on the outside of the building. There is no area for outdoor exercise.
Because the facility is located on property used by city services, visits to the shelter are by appointment only.
Current Troy facility visits and adoptions
To visit the current shelter or adopt an animal, contact the Troy city police department at 334-566-0500 and schedule a time to meet with an officer at the facility.
County-wide needs
Pike County, Banks, Brundidge and Goshen currently have no animal shelter facilities.
The Solution
The Troy Animal Shelter Coalition was formed to bring together the hearts and talents of Pike Countians to build an animal shelter that can be a foundation for all animal welfare efforts.
The non-profit organization
The Troy Animal Shelter Coalition, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, administers the Pike Animal Shelter. (The TASC is the organization; the facility it administers will be named the Pike Animal Shelter.)
Contributions to the Troy Animal Shelter Coalition / Pike Animal Shelter are tax deductible.
Conflict of interest policy
The Troy Animal Shelter Coalition has a conflict of interest policy that prevents the personal interests of any individual from interfering with his or her performance toward building the Pike Animal Shelter.
